Hi there! I’m Deborah (but most people call me Deb), and I’ve been passionate about sewing for more years than I can count (and I’m not about to reveal my age, so let’s leave it at that!).

My sewing journey began thanks to my lovely mother-in-law, who taught me the basics when I was pregnant with my first child. Back then, maternity clothes were scarce, especially for a teenage mum on a tight budget, so I took matters into my own hands. I stitched together my own wardrobe—elasticated trousers and all—and felt on top of the world in my handmade creations.

After my daughter arrived, I kept sewing, crafting adorable outfits for her and, not long after, for my son as well. But as life got busier with work and family, my sewing machine got tucked away for a while.

Sewing came back into my life in a big way when my marriage ended (don’t worry, we’re still great friends!). It became my creative escape and a source of comfort. Then came the moment that truly changed everything: I stumbled across the Necessary Clutch Wallet pattern on Sian’s Kittenish Behaviour YouTube channel. That project lit a spark, and my love for bag making was born.

When Andy—also affectionately known as Mr. Grumpy—came into my life in 2017, he didn’t bring flowers. Instead, he brought vintage sewing machines in need of TLC, and that’s when I knew he was a keeper.

Fast forward to 2020, when the world turned upside down during the pandemic, and my day job was put on hold. I joined the sewing community effort to create scrubs and wash bags for NHS workers, which was incredibly rewarding and reminded me how much I loved putting my skills to good use. It also gave me time to reflect, and I realized I was ready for a big change.

In mid-2021, I took a leap of faith and launched Me Made Makes. What started as a small venture providing bag-making supplies and advice has grown into so much more. Along the way, I’ve added a YouTube channel and my very own online sewing club, The Bag Makers Sew-Ciety Club. It’s been a whirlwind journey, filled with highs and challenges, but I wouldn’t trade it for the world.

Every day, I’m grateful to be part of this amazing sewing community. It’s such a joy to connect with others who share the same passion, and I’m constantly inspired by the creativity and kindness I see all around me.

Thank you for being part of this journey and for letting me be part of yours. Let’s keep growing, creating, and supporting each other—one stitch at a time.
